Over the years, I've been fortunate to have been able to visit many parts of the world.   Here are some of my favorite images, each a special memory for me.  They will be changing from time to time, so please be sure to check back frequently.

  Kennecott, Alaska

Kennecott Glacier en route from Chitina to Kennecott in the Wrangell-St Elias National Park.   Mt. Blackburn is 16,390 feet.  Kennecott is the largest ghost town in the United States, abandoned in the early 1930's when the price of copper fell.    Workers and residents dropped their tools, packed their clothes and caught the last train out to the coast some 200 miles away.   The National Park Service is "stabilizing" buildings including the 34 storey mill and restoring others including the general store and school.

Big Sur, California

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, Big Sur, California   This picturesque bay is a favorite of visitors to the area.  The waterfall is 85 feet in height.

Quebec City, Canada

Christmas 2007 in old Quebec City was magic with the most snow in almost forty years.   Here the shops are decorated for the holidays and the streets are filled with revelers.

Kruger National Park, South Africa

Burchell's Zebra in Kruger National Park South Africa.   Kruger Park is the size of Rhode Island, dotted with exclusive lodges for visitors and thousands of animals, birds, and reptiles.

Montreal, Canada

This is one of the many chapels inside Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal.

 Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

The mighty Zambezi River falls over Victoria Falls, twice as high as Niagra Falls and five times as wide.   The river is the natural border between Zimbabwe and Zambia and is full of big hungry crocodiles.   Further down river is Lake Kariba, the largest man made lake in the world, a result of the Kariba Dam that provides hydroelectric power to both countries and the southern African grid.

Wankie, Zimbabwe

This this old  fellow was lying patiently one morning alongside the public road between the entrance to Wankie (Hwange) National Park and the Wankie Park Lodge as cars and bicycles passed by unknowingly.

  Emily Pass, New Zealand

The famous Routerburn Track traverses the mountainside on the left in a series of zig-zags down to Lake Mackenzie.  Looking back from the lake is Ocean Peak and Emily Pass.

Cape Town, South Africa

Table mountain with its famous "tablecloth" of clouds provides the backdrop for this cosmopolitan South African City.

 Sedona, Arizona

Bell rock is a well known vortex, a sacred center for spiritual healing amongst native peoples and visitors alike.   It is one of several in the beautiful Sedona area.

Cay Sal Bank, Bahamas

These remote rocky cays between Florida, Cuba, and the Bahamas provide little protection in a storm.

  Grand Canyon, Arizona

Tthis picture was taken from 37,000 feet on a recent flight from St Louis to Los Angeles.

.

Yosemite, California

Yosemite Falls are a focal point of Yosemite Valley.   These are the upper falls.

y  Yosemite, California

The famous El Capitan and Bridal Veil Falls greet visitors to the Yosemite Valley.

  Tucson, Arizona

Petroglyphs on rocks in the Coronado National Forest are facing the setting sun

Yellowstone, Wyoming

A unique view of Yellowstone Lake from Peale Island.

Florida Bay, Florida

A perfect day on the flats near Flamingo in Everglades National Park.   Florida Bay covers many square miles of shallow waters teeming with fish and birds.

Franz Josef, New Zealand

One of two glaciers on the South Island's western coast that flow through a temperate rain forest of mountain beech, ferns, and lichens.   This picture was taken from Nob Hill.   Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers are both within the boundaries of Westland National Park. Ski plane flights are available with landings on the glacier neve during certain times of the year.

Vero Beach, Florida

A sunset on the Indian River Lagoon.

Nome, Alaska

It's late May on the road to the small settlement of Council.   These abandoned locomotives recall the era of the big gold rush in Alaska.

Walvis Bay, Namibia

These dunes stretch for miles and are part of the Namib Desert, one of the oldest in the world.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Humpback Whales are abundant off the northern tip of the Cape in October feeding on plankton, small sea worms, and shrimp
